Saia recently announced the appointment of Gautam Bhat as Vice President of Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI), a newly created leadership position at the company. The news was disclosed in a press release this month.

According to the announcement, Bhat will focus on "advancing the company's enterprise data strategy, as well as the responsible application of AI across the business."

Bhat stated ina LinkedIn post: "The opportunity to lead the data and AI team here is incredibly exciting, as the less-than-truckload (LTL) sector is ripe for AI transformation."

This role will support Saia's efforts in technology modernization, scaling, and long-term growth.

Bhat brings extensive experience in AI and data, having held executive positions at Graphic Packaging International, automation machinery manufacturer ABB, and various General Electric companies such as GE Energy Connections.

Saia President and CEO Frederick "Fritz" Holzgrefe noted during a recentfirst-quarter earnings callthat data analytics and optimization tools are core components of the company's strategy. He said: "We will continue to invest in these capabilities and expand the use of these tools."

According to a 2025 report from the MIT Center for Transportation and Logistics, approximately$65.5 billionworth of work in the transportation sector is highly related to artificial intelligence each year, and AI technology is expected to enhance worker productivity.
